I didn't really expect to be coming to the Oscars.

As a government leader, I'm not going to sit on the sidelines and watch all these other sectors innovate. I'm going to do everything I can as a leader to be in that innovation, to be a provocateur for that innovation.

Democracy means government by discussion, but it is only effective if you can stop people talking.

When I was a prosecutor in Kansas City, my job was to fight for justice and safety for all citizens in my community. Equal access to justice under the law is an American value embedded in the fabric of our legal and political system - the idea that anybody, powerful or not, can have their day in court.

My own belief is that the way we grow the economy, create jobs, create wealth is in the private sector. The government doesn't do that.
