I was a kid from Winnipeg - I didn't know anything about the world.

Private equity does pay very well, and my counterparts, guys that I grew up with who are still working at a number of firms, all make a lot of money.

There's no art or interest in your craft from the people that want to see you.

There were no museums or galleries in Shanghai, but I was very keen on art - I was always sketching and copying, and sometimes I think that my whole career as a writer has been the substitute work of an unfulfilled painter.

Star Trek is perhaps the best thing that ever happened to me, in a career sense.

I sacrificed six years in L.A. I did my job out here. I made contacts and did the work I had to do.
