I'm usually quite good at learning things, but I just don't find the business stuff that interesting, so it makes it harder to get my head around.

I always knew I wanted to be a doctor. I saw a lot of my friends having a hard time figuring out what they wanted to do, so I'm glad I had a purpose and goal to focus on. I liked the discipline and the sense of structure.

I was very conscious of the film industry - a lot of people, neighbors, worked in it. I actually grew up doing a bit of extra work myself. I was homeschooled, and it was a way that I could make money. My parents let us do these jobs, and I never got very far, but I was much more interested in what everybody else was doing, and I liked being on set.

The paradox of being in an industry where other people are usually the gatekeepers: publishers, editors - there are a lot of barriers to having control over your career. But coming out of hip-hop, the mindset was always to create your own.

In my career, there have been three things that were challenging: playing gay; playing a Jewish woman; and playing Chekhov. The scariest part was playing Chekhov!

I am very excited, as 'Kuch Rang Pyar Ke Aise Bhi' is my first show on television, and I am thrilled about this new adventure in my career. It is an honour to be associated with such a fantastic team.
