Attention is the fundamental instrument we use for learning, thinking, communicating, deciding, yet neither parents nor schools spend any time helping young people learn how to manage information streams and control the ways they deploy their attention.

The idea that your spouse or your parents don't know where you are at all times may be part of the past. Is that good or bad? Will that make for better marriages or worse marriages? I don't know.

Advertising in the past has been predicated on a mass market and a captive audience.

People's social networks do not consist only of people they see face to face. In fact, social networks have been extending because of artificial media since the printing press and the telephone.

You have to embrace trends; it's crazy to think you can live above it. Like digital, like selling online, like social networks - if you fear them, they're going to eat you alive.

People said, 'MySpace is going to rule and dominate all Internet; all young people will live on MySpace.' Well, along comes Facebook. And, obviously, all the innovation that Apple is doing.

You reach sometimes when you're at the lowest and times when you don't know if you are going to play again or when the next injection or operation might be. There are sometimes when you are at rock bottom. That's when you need people around you, at the club, the fans, little tweets on social media to give you some reassurance.

It seems odd that at the beginning of the Internet, everyone decided everything should stick around forever.
