Growing up on, say, the Upper East Side, you're so isolated. If you go to the Hamptons every weekend, you never talk to a construction worker, and the construction worker would never talk to you.

Rob loves my mum, I think the most in the whole world. They are two peas in a pod and I'm the one on the outside. It makes me even more in love with my husband and with my mum, because she can be bonkers and unconventional and it can be embraced.

People should be allowed to marry, and gay marriage should be out there. If a man or a woman has a good partner and they love each other with their heart and soul, let them marry. I am very much for gay marriage.

I think that's what makes a successful marriage: a mindful sense of self and the ability to make clear choices to stay together or choices not to.

Irvine is such a safe, stable, planned community, and I'm a person who has a lot of inner longing for drama and romance. So I think in some way the structure of Irvine made me more creative because I had these boundaries, and I thought outside them.
