Growing up in the '90s was the coolest thing to me.

Growing up, I loved Boy George, George Michael, Annie Lennox, Queen, Freddie Mercury, Celine Dion, Barbra Streisand and Diana Ross.

When I started out rapping, I became very frightened by the idea that people were trying to pigeonhole me. That's usually what happens to most female rappers. They fit in a box and there's a prototype or person they're compared to.

I never feel confined by gender, by labels, by expectations, by stereotypes. I'm free to be myself.

I'm sure all parents think their kids are funny, and I'm sure a lot of kids are, whether their parents are comics or not.

For 'Regulate,' I was at home, and I came up with it. I was listening to Michael McDonald's 'I Keep Forgettin'.' It was a record that I always loved, from being a kid and my parents playing it when they had their company of friends over. It was a record that just stuck in my head, and it just felt good.

As a child, I saw how the industry's sweet-talkers operate. For years, they tried to make my father feel like he was the best actor in the whole world. My father never took them seriously. I, too, imbibed that trait from him.

It was hard saying goodbye to the 'iCarly' family just because we have become such a family, but I do get to see them all the time, and I stay in touch with them.
