My candidacy is one that fits the district and fits the Mick Mulvaney-Jim DeMint philosophy.

John Spratt did a great job of constituent service. When somebody had a problem, he would jump on it. The reason I ran against him was that he was one way in the district and then when he got to Washington, he voted the opposite.

I got into politics because businessmen should be spending your money.

Men aren't able to retire and are going bankrupt making alimony payments.

There's a bizarre prejudice that exists in the New York publishing establishment that any work outside the tri-state area is being done by trained chimpanzees, that geography screens out sensibility. There's an idea that all Los Angeles writing is about the movie industry, that it's vulgar, shallow and banal.

I should have been trying to build a career, rather than leaving it in the hands of somebody else.

I think it's important to be thinking about your personal life and your family not just when you've retired but also during your career.

Nothing in my decade-plus entertainment career has meant more to me personally and professionally than my involvement with HQ.
