I think movies are a director's medium in the end. Theater is the actor's medium. Theater is fast, and enjoyable, and truly rewarding. I believe in great live performance.

I don't think of it as a competition - which might surprise you, given the way movies are reported constantly.

I want to try and work in different genres with different types of actors, on small movies and big movies.

I think with Blair Witch and The Sixth Sense, people are much more open to something that is different.

Depth of friendship does not depend on length of acquaintance.

Relationships are interesting to me. Not just between men and women, but fathers and sons, brothers and sisters and friends.

With '2 Dope Queens,' we get the opportunity to love and enjoy each other and have fun being best friends and being women of color and talking about our personal experience. Also, we give an opportunity to elevate voices for many different people that otherwise would not get such a large platform.

Having grown up in a Catholic family, while I felt like I was never conscious of any blatant anti-Semitism, I was aware of a slightly insidious, us-versus-them mentality. A lot of my best friends and early girlfriends were Jewish, and I encountered what was more of a suburban small-mindedness, of people needing to defend their tribe.
