America loves to watch people growing and getting better.

My goal is for 'The Bill Engvall Show' to be a show the networks look at and say, 'Ooh, maybe we should get back to the family sitcom.'

No sooner my kids leave their friends than they start texting them. And it's all in code in a language I totally don't understand.

I have fun on stage, so people think maybe they should, too.

I'm not sure anybody's ready to see me in a drama. And loving movies so much, I've seen a lot of comics try to make that transition too fast, and it can be detrimental. And I don't think I've had as much success as I need in the comedy genre to open up those opportunities.

I really try to have fun. If I don't have fun, you won't have fun. That's what my gift is: to relieve people from a little of the pain and comfort in their lives by allowing my comedy to distract them. A good laugh is almost as good as any doctor visit.

Comedy is my proper job. It's what I should be doing, and when I do other bits like my science series, I miss it.

I think good comedy is a commitment to the absurd in that the situation for the actors should be virtually played like a drama.
