I am optimistic. But I also know that, with time, I'm beginning to fight issues of aging as well as long-term paralysis.

I am a very lucky guy. I can testify before Congress. I can raise funds. I can raise awareness.

I have more awareness of other people and, I hope, more sensitivity to their needs. I also find that I'm more direct and outspoken.

It's important to me to say what I really mean.

Any motivation starts with some type of doubt.

I was thrilled as a kid to point out my sister as she danced and sang on the stage, and she was pretty good artistically. She was a great inspiration to me. She was the one who sort of led me into show business.

As a former high school teacher and a student in a class of 60 urchins at St. Brigid's grammar school, I know that education is all about discipline and motivation. Disadvantaged students need extra attention, a stable school environment, and enough teacher creativity to stimulate their imaginations. Those things are not expensive.

I'll always use the negativity as more motivation to work even harder and become even stronger.
